Pinning My Garden Together

My husband often teases me about the photos that I take of my garden.  I like to think of them as lovely little vignettes but truth-be-told the tight focus hides many of my gardening sins, like all those weeds that have managed to make themselves right at home alongside their more distinguished cousins.

I thoroughly enjoy my little garden though it pales in comparison to the photo fantasies of Beautiful Blooms or Potagers & Parterres over which I swoon.  Of course I'm well aware that these dream gardens result from a level of expertise and effort that I will never attain and I'm more than okay with that.  There's no way I'm going to be crawling "commando style" through my garden beds to get all the last little imperfections out (as I read one avid 80 year old gardener did right before her magazine photo shoot) but I am open to any practical ideas that would help to improve my little plots.
And that's where Pinterest came in.

I realized that besides providing me with all the "garden porn" I could ever hope to ogle it could also give me a way to create & maintain a functional  gardening journal.  It was a revelation!

I dumped out all the little dirt-covered tags that I have collected over the years with each plant purchase and started recording them.  I googled information and images that would help with their identification (I sometimes forget just what is what) and basic care.  I made brief notes on my entries and hash-tagged to keep things organized.  I actually had a lot of fun doing it!

A year later My Gardening Journal is flourishing and so I thought I would share it with you.  For those in the Ottawa area (Zone 5A) you may find some useful additions, for others just the idea of using Pinterest to get organized may be of interest.

In any case, I do hope that you enjoy it!

  1. Garden 'porn' that is such a funny way to put it, it made me literally laugh out loud :)

All kidding aside though, it is a great idea to journal and organize a garden like that. Thanks for sharing :)

    1. You're welcome, Leena. I'm glad that you liked it.

I'm guessing that "garden porn" could be a well used phrase but I'm scared to google it to find out :)
